The Department of Pediatrics of RUHSCMS provides patient care, teaching and research with a diverse community of Faculty and Students. The spectrum of healthy and sick children reaching this department for clinical care provides the students with unparalleled opportunities to learn and serve. Problem solving and Research are central to the academic programs in the department.
Faculty Members, committed to excellence in Pediatric Education, are guiding relevant efforts within each section of the department to foster the next generation of leaders in Pediatric clinical care and Research.
The Department of Pediatrics , currently housed in the RDBP Govt. Jaipuriya Hospital has a total bed strength of 47 .With an average footfall of more than 100 patients per day in the OPD and 25 deliveries per day, this is one of the busiest sections of the hospital. Department has two general pediatric units (I and II) and one Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
The Department runs specialty clinics in
- Growth & Development,
- Pediatric Nephrology & Endocrinology,
- Respiratory disease Clinic,
- High risk newborn Clinic and
- Immunization Clinic.
Presently we are having 7 bedded Level II NICU which is very soon going to be expanded to 20 bedded NICU .The emergency unit runs round the clock and handles all pediatric emergencies. This department is uniquely placed to train students under -graduate and research Degrees programs at all (Undergraduate, postgraduate, Fellowship and Doctoral) levels with faculty Members focusing on specialized aspects of pediatric care in the department.
The Department has regular teaching program round the year for undergraduate (M.B.B.S) including Interns, Basic and Advanced Pediatric Life Support Courses and post graduate (DNB Family Medicine) students. Nursing students in collaboration with various colleges are also being provided hands-on training by the faculty and senior staff.
Research on health issues with a crying need at the Regional and National level is the priority of the department. The department is committed to improve child health care through excellence in patient care, teaching and research. The department has published more than 10 scientific papers in the last 5 years in indexed journals of national and international repute.
History
Started in a 25 year old pre-existing Satellite hospital, the department has been created by a collaborative coalition of doctors and paramedical staff working for the state health services and teaching faculty of the new medical college.
